Favicon Checker
Check whether a website’s favicon works in browsers, on iPhone, on Android and in Google Search, and see what is missing.
What the favicon checker tests
Enter any website address and the checker loads the page the way a browser does, finds every icon it links to, and tests each one:
- favicon.ico in the root folder, which browsers request automatically
<link rel="icon">tags in the HTML, and whether each file actually loads- A sharp icon of 32×32 or larger, or an SVG, for high-resolution screens
- Apple touch icon for iPhone and iPad home screens
- Web app manifest with 192×192 and 512×512 icons for Android
- Google Search: a square icon that is a multiple of 48 pixels, or an SVG
How to fix what it finds
Most problems are solved by making a complete favicon set with the favicon generator, uploading the files to the root of your site and pasting the HTML it gives you. Then run the check again.
Questions
Why does my favicon still not show after fixing it?
Browsers cache favicons for a long time. Open the site in a private window, or see why your favicon is not showing.
Why does Google show a grey globe instead of my icon?
Google needs a favicon that is square and a multiple of 48 pixels (or SVG), on a URL Google is allowed to crawl. It can take weeks to update. Read how to show your favicon in Google Search.
Can I check a page behind a login?
No. The checker only sees public pages, the same as Google.
