How to add a favicon to your Shopify store

Shopify themes have a favicon setting in the theme editor. No code is needed.

The image to use

A square PNG. Shopify resizes it to 32×32 for browser tabs, so start with at least 96×96; 512×512 is safest. Make one with the favicon generator or the text favicon generator.

Steps

In Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes.
Click Customize on your current theme.
Open Theme settings (the gear or brush icon in the left sidebar).
Find Logo or Favicon (the section name depends on your theme) and upload your image under Favicon image.
Click Save.

Shopify favicon not showing or not updating?

Browsers cache favicons. Check in a private window first.
Make sure you edited the published theme, not a draft copy.
Some older themes don’t have the setting. In that case add the HTML to theme.liquid inside <head>; see how to add a favicon in HTML.
Chrome can take a while to refresh the icon for pages it has already cached.
